Preference reflects the happiness that results from a choice between two otherwise equal items. E.g. an apple and a pear may be identical in every way, except your character may have a preference for apples, and receives more happiness for eating apples than for eating pears. Similarly this could apply to clothing etc. This is particularly relavent in a market, and for non utility items such as jewelry. For your playable character this may simply be decided in the playing style of the player. For non playable characters, this is necessary in creating consistency of style, otherwise it would probably be random.

Prestige is the opinion that other characters have of you. This is a super cial quality that is a re
ection of the clothes you wear, the quality of your armour and weapons, the food you eat, your posessions, etc. This is associated with, but distinct from qualities such as respect and honour. Qualities such as piety can improve prestige.
